Can Hair Transplant Surgery Procedure Help Balding in Young Men?

Friday, July 24th, 2009

There was a time when no one would even think of doing hair transplant surgery on young men.  It was agonizing for this group of young people because thinning, balding, and receding hairlines often started before they got out of their teens.  Now the procedure is being opened to young men – but with restrictions.

Because losing hair at such a young age is very traumatic, hair transplant doctors do not like to go along with the patients’ snap decisions.  After an in-depth consultation, the doctor will do everything in his power to put off the surgery.  He will ask the patient to come back for a final consultation in six months or so.  Many doctors will refuse to do immediate hair transplants if they are put to the test.

There are advantages to getting hair transplant surgery under the age of 25.

Question on Hair Transplant Surgery Scars?

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Question: Hi, can you please let me know if there will be any visible scars on the head after a hair transplant surgery? I have seen some discussion thread on hair transplant forum where this topic was being discussed and I wanted to ask for your expert opinion.

Answer: Hair transplant surgery scars will not be visible if the surgery is done by a good surgeon. The scars be seen at the lateral fringe of the scalp, from where the flap has been taken earlier — we call these the donor area scars, which are formed as the skin heals, and they heal within a few weeks.

Scars are also possible in the recipient area, but since the transformation to follicular units has been made, they are extremely rare. With old-fashioned plugs and with mini grafts, some scar formation is evident around each graft.

Scars are not seen because the area involved is so small and once the hairs grow the area is covered. Micro grafts (1-2 hairs) are put into needle created holes so it is not noticeable. Recipient area may experience temporary scars as the holes/insertions heal.

Overall, there should be no scars. That’s why Hair transplant surgery is used by so many hollywood actors!
